This paper examines the role of reconciliation in post-conflict peacebuilding, drawing on lessons from South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). It explores reconciliation as a complex psychological and social process that contributes to healing trauma, restoring relationships, and fostering coexistence after periods of violence and oppression. The study highlights how truth-telling, forgiveness, and acknowledgment of past injustices support both individual and collective recovery. It also discusses challenges faced during reconciliation processes, including issues of justice, accountability, and victims’ experiences.
